AI literacy and the EU AI Act
Article 4 of the EU AI Act has required providers and deployers to ensure sufficient AI literacy among their staff since 2 February 2025. It sets up no certification scheme: the European Commission's position is that an internal record of the training is enough. The Act is not binding in Iceland today, since no EEA Joint Committee Decision has been adopted yet. Every attendee leaves with a certificate documenting their training, which is the kind of record Article 4 asks for. If your organisation has operations inside the EU the duty may already reach you, and if incorporation reaches Iceland you will not be starting from zero.
